You have the option of completing many American Red Cross Health and Safety classes using a blend of computer-based instruction and classroom skill demonstration. This provides students with greater flexibility in scheduling completion of the lecture/instruction portion of the classes. In short, you work from a web-based program maintained by the Greater Indianapolis Chapter of the American Red Cross. All courses have approval from the Ameican National Red Cross as well as OSHA. You receive the information from a combination of video and written material presented online. You register for the course and pay the course fee online, using a secure web portal, at the time of registration. You have up to 14 days to complete the online portion of your course from the date you register online.
At the conclusion you take an online test, similar to what you would do in a traditional class. You must score 80 on the test in order to move on to the skill practice and demonstration portion. If you do not pass the test the first time through, you have a second opportunity to take it. When you have successfully completed the test, you will receive an electronic certificate to print and bring in to this chapter when you are ready for the skill portion. You must bring the certificate with you to the skill portion.
To set up your skill session, simply call the chapter at (845) 338-7020. You have up to 30 days to complete the skill portion of your course from the date you finish. Once you have successfully mastered the skills in the course, you demonstrate them to the instructor and receive an American Red Cross certificate for the course you have completed.
